Day 1: Yangon Arrival
Mingalabar! Welcome to Myanmar!
Upon arrival at Yangon International Airport, meet your guide and transfer to the hotel in the city center.
Yangon is the largest city of Myanmar and perhaps one of the best places in Southeast Asia you will see an example of a European colonial capital. After check-in at your hotel, enjoy a short break.
In the afternoon, make your first visit to Sule Pagoda – a well-known landmark in the city noted for its octagonal- shape. The pagoda is said to enshrine the sacred hair of the Buddha. From here, proceed to Kandawgyi Lake, a breathtaking artificial lake in Yangon, located toward the east of the Shwedagon Pagoda. The lake is best known for its Karaweik Palace, a replica of a traditional Burmese royal boat.
Next up, visit Bogyoke Aungsan Market (Scott Market) which is known for a variety of handicrafts, clothing, and fabrics. Finally, highlight your city tour with a visit to the Shwedagon Pagoda. No visit to Myanmar is complete without a visit to this 2,500 pagoda since it is the most sacred and impressive Buddhist site for the people of the Union of Myanmar & one of the wonders of the religious world. It is covered with hundreds of gold plates and the top of the stupa is encrusted with 4531 diamonds. Overnight in Yangon.
Day 2: Yangon – Bagan (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport to take a flight to Bagan, one of the greatest archaeological sites on earth with more than 3000 pagodas and temples dotted across the plain. On arrival, meet your local guide at the airport then transfer for a visit to Shwezigon Pagoda, one of the most significant religious sites in Myanmar. The temple is a prototype for the later stupas built in the country and marked a significant development in the relationship between traditional Burmese religion and Theravada Buddhism in which enshrine a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha.
Leave the pagoda, proceed to Gubyaukgyi Temple at Wetkyi-Inn Village. Observe its impressive architecture which dates back to the early 13th century featuring great colorful paintings showing the previous life of Buddha.
After that, visit Ananda Pagoda, one of the finest, largest & best-preserved temples in Bagan. From here transfer to Manuha Temple enshrining the unusual combination of 3 seated and one reclining image Buddha. Then head to the stunning Shwesandw Paya – one of the country’s highest Buddhist pilgrimage sites. Just over 3 feet taller than the main zedi at Yangon’s Shwedagon, the Shwesandaw stupa follows the classic Burmese design seen at Bagan’s Shwezigon. End of the day, visit a Lacquerware workshop in the village around Bagan to learn about the painstaking process of lacquerware making and decoration. Overnight in Bagan.
Day 3: Bagan – Mt Popa – Salay (B)
Today enjoy a half-day trip to Mount Popa – an important religious site in Bagan. A two to three-hour hike up to the monastery on the peak will reward you with a spectacular view. If the weather is clear, you will have a chance to capture the spot the temples of Bagan. The spiritual importance of Mount Popa is expressed by many golden stupas along the way and on top of the crater rim. The flanks of the volcano are covered by dense vegetation, a paradise for bird watchers and botanists. You can also observe many curious monkeys on the way to the top. The upper third of the climb is bare and it can get very hot even in December / January.
On the top is a stunning must-see Kyaung Kalap monastery with shrines for the 37 nats and a spectacular view over the region, accessible by taking 777 steps. After the trip, continue to drive to the Burmese town Salay to explore the local life, the oldest surviving wooden monastery noted for beautiful carvings of the court life and scenes from the Ramayana. Then visit the market and the Thar Ta Na Yaung Chi monastery, which also serves as an orphanage. Overnight in Bagan. Floral Breeze Hotel Bagan or similar.
Day 4: Bagan – Ngapali (B)
This morning is free at leisure until your driver transfers you to the airport for the flight to Thandwe – the gateway to Ngapali Beach. Upon arrival in Thandwe, pick up & transfer to hotel in Ngapali for check in. Overnight in Ngapali.
Day 5: Ngapali (B)
A whole day free for you to relax & sunbathe on the poetic beach.
